Light, acoustics and green: the interplay
A plant in a dark corner dies, a moss wall in the sun discolours, and a booth without green around it stays a cupboard. Light, acoustics and green are one design question. This is how we approach it.
Start with the light
Where does daylight come in, and how deep? Workstations there, meeting and focus in the middle. Artificial light follows the day: bright in the morning, warm at the end of the afternoon.
Then the sound
Open floors reverberate. First the rough work: acoustic booths for calls and meetings, ceiling islands and wall panels in wool. Then the fine work: moss, plants, curtains and carpet where people talk.
Then the green
Plants that suit the light there is, moss where light is lacking, a living wall where everyone comes in. Green as a divider between departments, green around a booth. At Inovatoren the VOX booths got a slat set with hanging plants: quiet and nature in one piece of furniture.
Finally the materials
Wood, wool, linen, clay. They dampen, they feel warm and they tie the three layers together. Emma draws the whole into your floor plan, with colours and measurements, so you can see the plan before it is there.
Frequently asked question
Do plants really dampen sound?
A little. Plants and moss absorb high tones and reverberation, but they do not stop a conversation next to you. That takes a booth or an acoustic wall; green makes the rest of the room calmer.
